Pepperdine University and
UC Santa Barbara Plan MBA Offering to UCSB Alumni
LOS ANGELES April 08,2010--UC Santa Barbara alumni interested in
earning an MBA have a new option that is the next best thing to
an accredited graduate business school of their own. As one of the
benefits of being an UCSB alumnus, the UC Santa Barbara
|
Alumni Association (http://www.ucsbalum.com/) has
teamed with the Graziadio School of Business and Management (http://bschool.pepperdine.edu/programs/mba/)
at Pepperdine University to offer enrollment in the evening Master
of Business Administration program at Pepperdine’s nearby
Westlake Village campus.
Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School will host the first
of three on-campus informational sessions for the Fully Employed
MBA for Business Professionals Program (http://bschool.pepperdine.edu/programs/mba/curriculum/)
at the UCSB Mosher Alumni House on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Professionals
living and working in the area who are not current UCSB students
and graduates are also welcome to attend and learn about earning
a Pepperdine MBA degree, general financial aid options and merit
scholarships.
“Our student-focused, experience-driven and values-centered
MBA program for working professionals complements UCSB’s nationally
recognized programs and research in engineering, the sciences, and
economics,” said Dr. Linda A. Livingstone, dean of the business
school at Pepperdine University. “Alumni who desire to augment
their UCSB degree with an internationally accredited and ranked
graduate business education will have far greater flexibility in
career progression and be much better prepared for success in an
increasingly competitive marketplace.”
In the months ahead, the Graziadio School will work with the UCSB
Alumni Office to market its Westlake Village-based part-time MBA
program through the Association’s channels, as well as facilitate
informational events and individual consultations both in Santa
Barbara and Westlake Village.

2010 Rice University
Business Plan CompetitionTM Announces $1 Million in Prizes
HOUSTON April 07, 2010--What do you need most when you start
a new business? Money! And The Rice
|
| Business Plan CompetitionTM (RBPC) will be
awarding more than $1 million in prizes to aid new start-up
businesses at the 10th annual competition. The $1 million
in prizes is a new record for the competition, which was already
the world’s largest and richest.
The 42 teams selected from nearly 420 entries, a 20% increase
from 2009, for the 2010 competition come from some of the
best universities around the world. Teams were chosen based
on their executive summaries to compete in six categories:
life sciences, information technology, energy, green tech,
social and other technologies, in the April 15-17 event. The
teams will present 15-minute business plans with the top six
competitors vying for the grand prize valued up to $385,000.
NEW PRIZES:
Though it may be a down economy in the United States, Houston
is thriving as a region that supports business and entrepreneurship.
Supporters of the competition, both individuals and corporations,
as well as the NASA Johnson Space Center, have stepped up
this year to create new prizes which put the total prizes
above the $1 million threshold for the first time. These include:
$100,000 Waste Management “Think Green” Investment
Prize
$50,000 NASA “Game Changer” Commercial Space Innovation
Prize sponsored by the NASA Johnson Space Center
$15,000 Heinlein Commercial Space Award underwritten by Heinlein
Prize Trust
$10,000 “Courageous Women Entrepreneur” Award
provided by nCourage Entrepreneurs Investment Group
All 42 teams will also compete in the elevator pitch competition,
where one member has 60 seconds to entice a potential investor,
and in the new TwitPitch Competition where teams post a 140-character
Tweet to promote their business.
Each of the 42 teams invited to compete at Rice are guaranteed
to take home cash prize money. But more important may be the
opportunity to meet potential investors and receive mentoring
from more than 200 judges, who themselves are successful venture
capitalists, angel investors, entrepreneurs, and business
leaders.

New Non-Profit Offers Scholarship
Funds For Tactical Medical Training and Education
April 6, 2010 -- The Coalition for Tactical Medicine (CTM), a new
national non-profit will raise funds for scholarships to pay for
tactical medical
|
training and education
for people who risk their lives daily. Local police, EMS, SWAT teams,
and soldiers will be able to apply for scholarship funding (http://www.coalitiontacticalmedicine.org/train/guidelines/).
In addition, doctors, nurses, school principals and other non-traditional
personnel who would also benefit from having tactical medical skills
may be eligible. CTM’s Mission: Strengthen the lifesaving
capabilities of tactical medical providers worldwide.
“Many of the people joining the Coalition have witnessed
the death of someone due to the lack of tactical medical training
or education. Limited budgets can hinder their abilities to acquire
these skills,” said CTM Board of Director Chair Jessica Perkins.
“CTM will work to save lives by raising scholarship funds
that will be used to increase the lifesaving capabilities of the
people who enter crisis and austere environments,” said Perkins.
