Jonway to
Manufacture ZAP's Alias Electric Sports Vehicle in China
SANTA ROSA, Calif., April 29 Electric transportation pioneer ZAP
(OTC Bulletin Board: ZAAP) has
|
| contracted Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. Ltd.
to be the manufacturing partner for its futuristic Alias electric
sports car in China. ZAP and Jonway have agreed to accelerate volume
production manufacturing plans following successful debut of a pre-production
Alias at the Jonway exhibit at the Beijing Motor Show last week.
ZAP is targeting the electric vehicle market in China and worldwide
markets, making Alias one of the first electric sports cars to be
produced in China.
Jonway is ZAP's manufacturing partner on a number of different electric
vehicle models and Alias is one of latest models included under
the strategic commercial agreements signed earlier this year. In
addition to the Alias, Jonway is ZAP's manufacturing partner for
its SUV electric taxi based on Jonway's A380 SUV and is launching
production manufacturing for the China market with volume delivery
this year.
"We are very pleased with the positive response and strong
interest shown at the Beijing Motor Show," said Jonway CEO
Alex Wang.
ZAP is actively seeking support for manufacturing in the U.S. and
is engaged in preliminary discussions with state and local government
officials regarding possible future sites.
ZAP will validate performance specifications of the Alias and showcase
its capabilities at the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE
(PIAXP), an international competition for clean, production-capable
automobiles capable of 100 MPG and above energy equivalent. ZAP
has designed the Alias to travel at freeway speeds with an estimated
range of over 100 miles per charge.
One of the pre-production ZAP Alias vehicles will compete in the
Shakedown Stage of PIAXP, which takes place next week at Michigan
International Speedway. Alias is competing in side-by-side alternative
vehicle category. For more information on the X PRIZE event, visit
their website at http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/. Follow the

Sen. Chris
Dodd Joins on as Co-Sponsor of 'Right to Repair Act'
BETHESDA, Md., April 29 Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT) has become
a co-sponsor of the Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act (S
3181) which was recently introduced into the Senate by Sens. Barbara
Boxer (D-CA) and Sam Brownback (R-KS).
"We want to thank Sen. Dodd for supporting this very important
piece of
|
pro-consumer and pro-small business
legislation," said Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO of the
Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA). "The top
priority of the Right to Repair Act is motoring consumer safety,
ensuring that motorists know what is happening with their vehicles.
The bill simply requires that vehicle manufacturers provide car
owners and their trusted neighborhood repair shops with the same
access to the same safety alerts, technical service bulletins, diagnostic
tools and repair information they provide to their dealer network
– nothing more, nothing less."
The Right to Repair Act protects motoring consumers from a growing
and potentially hazardous vehicle repair monopoly by requiring that
car companies provide full access at a reasonable cost to all service
information, tools and safety-related bulletins needed to repair
motor vehicles, thus leveling the competitive playing field between
dealerships and independent repair shops.
The legislation further provides car companies with strong protections
for their trade secrets, only requiring them to make available the
same diagnostic and repair information they provide their franchised
dealers.
"The Right to Repair Act does not cost tax payers money, does
not create a new agency and, more importantly, does not ask taxpayers
for a bailout," said Ray Pohlman, president of the Coalition
for Auto Repair Equality (CARE). "This bill keeps motorists
in the driver's seat by making sure that they, and not the vehicle
manufacturers, have the final say on where a car is taken for service."
The House version of the Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act
(HR 2057) was introduced by Reps. Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Anna Eshoo
(D-CA) and George Miller (D-CA) and currently has 61 cosponsors.

Concepts
NREC Will Display Turbomachinery Expertise at the IMechE Conference
in London, May 19-20
White River Junction, VT May 3, 2010 -- Concepts NREC (http://www.ConceptsNREC.com)
(CN), a world leader in turbomachinery design, research, engineering,
and manufacturing, will exhibit and present a
|
| paper at the 9th International Conference
on Turbochargers and Turbocharging at the Institute of Mechanical
Engineers in London.
CN will exhibit both days of the IMechE Conference at stand seven
in the Hinton Room, on the first floor of the Institute's prestigious
headquarters at one Birdcage Walk, London. On May 20 at 13:20 hours,
Distinguished Corporate Fellow Nick Baines of CN will present "Turbocharger
Turbine Pulse Flow Performance & Modeling, 25 Years On."
“My discussion will look beyond the turbocharger itself to
underscore the importance of the technology in ushering in the new
era of efficiency and innovative solutions,” said Baines.
In his presentation, Baines will discuss how to make the best use
of exhaust energy and optimize the whole charging system for the
highly developed technology that will become a key part of future
IC engines.
The event has been held every four years since 1978. This year,
it will cover all current aspects of design and development of turbochargers,
turbocharging systems, other pressure charging devices and their
associated systems. Conference topics also will cover turbochargers
and turbocharging systems applications to internal combustion (IC)
engines in the passenger car, truck and bus, off-Highway, real traction,
industrial and marine market sectors.
The IC engine is a key product in addressing major market drivers
for the transport and industry sectors, including emissions legislation
and the need to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and fuel consumption.
To meet legislation, the IC engine needs to evolve with advances
in turbocharging systems (air delivery) and fuel injection (combustion
equipment) and enabling cleaner power with more efficiency. Ever
more stringent market drivers (such as Euro V & VI and EPA)
will push evolution further, presenting a series of challenges:
flow range, pressure ratio, efficiency, response, reliability, durability
and compactness, to name a few.
This event is part of an expanding program of activities that CN
will roll out in the coming year to support the growing success
in Europe and beyond for its turbomachinery software, services and
support. For more information about forthcoming physical events,
webinars and other initiatives, please visit www.ConceptsNREC.com. |
